1) Where to start: official search tool and calendar

2) Digitalisation: Kit Digital and Kit Consulting

  • Kit Digital (Red.es): vouchers from €3,000 to almost €30,000, depending on size (self-employed people and SMEs with up to 250 employees), for websites, booking engines, management, cybersecurity, analytics, etc. Several funding rounds remain open in 2025. Red.es Acelera Pyme El País
  • Call for medium-sized businesses (50–249 employees): vouchers worth up to €25,000; the general application window remained open until 30 June 2025. Red.es Cámara de Comercio de Málaga
  • Kit Consulting (Red.es): funding for advice and digital transformation roadmaps (up to €24,000 per SME) — a programme launched in 2024 and implemented in 2025. Cadena SER

3) Energy efficiency and the circular economy in accommodation

  • National PRTR C14.I4.2 funding scheme: grants for measures to improve energy efficiency and the circular economy in establishments providing tourist accommodation. They are administered through funding calls issued by each autonomous community. Recovery Plan
  • 2025 examples (regional):
    • Comunidad de Madrid (Community of Madrid): non-competitive grants for efficiency improvements in tourist accommodation; amounts from €25,000 to €300,000. Comunidad de Madrid+1
    • Canarias: grants for efficiency and circular economy projects in tourism businesses (C14, NextGenEU). Online services portal of the Gobierno de Canarias
    • Región de Murcia: funding scheme for modernisation of accommodation (green/digital transition) within its regional PSTD. CARM online portal
    • Extremadura and other autonomous communities: funding calls for tourism efficiency and competitiveness, with funding rates of 45–50% depending on size. Juntaex+1

Costs typically covered: building insulation and thermal performance, energy-efficient heating and cooling, renewables, reduced water consumption, waste management, smart building controls and monitoring systems, and circular economy measures (e.g. water reuse). Always check the specific regional scheme rules. Recovery Plan

4) LEADER: if your accommodation is in a rural area

The LEADER programme (FEADER) funds up to approximately 40–50% of projects in rural areas through Grupos de Acción Local (Local Action Groups). It is key for rural holiday homes, campsites and guesthouses in villages. Consult your GAL: requirements and deadlines vary by area. gencat.cat Juntaex

5) Planes de Sostenibilidad Turística en Destino (PSTD) — Destination Tourism Sustainability Plans — check who is eligible

The PSTD provide funding to local authorities/destinations, not individual businesses; nevertheless, many autonomous communities offer complementary business funding schemes (accommodation modernisation, marketing, etc.) linked to these plans. Examples from 2025 in the Comunitat Valenciana and Región de Murcia. Sede Servicios MInisterio (Ministry services portal) Turisme GVA Cadena SER

6) Public financing: ICO and special schemes

In addition to non-repayable grants, there are ICO loans and dedicated financing schemes for tourism investment; in 2025, schemes with an interest rate of 0 have been announced for areas affected by DANA, alongside programmes linked to the PRTR. How to prepare a winning application

  1. Assessment: a basic energy audit, the condition of installations and digital maturity (define before-and-after indicators).
  2. Fit with the funding scheme: link each expense to an eligible measure (e.g. C14.I4.2 → certified energy savings). Recovery Plan
  3. Cost estimates: three comparable quotes where the scheme rules require them; justify your choice.
  4. Documentation (typically): NIF, IAE registration, tourist accommodation licence, investment plan, timetable, energy performance certificates (before and after), a de minimis declaration, and being up to date with AEAT/Social Security obligations. (Always check the specific funding call.)
  5. Implementation and supporting evidence: keep invoices, bank payment records, technical reports and photographic evidence; measure savings and impact.
  6. GDPR compliance and accessibility in digital solutions (websites, apps, check-in, etc.).

Common mistakes (and how to avoid them)

  • Claiming ineligible expenditure (decoration that does not save energy, software outside the official categories, etc.). Solution: match each expense ↔ the scheme's governing rules. Red.es
  • Confusing PSTD (for destinations) with direct grants for businesses: if you are a business, look for the related regional funding programmes. Ministry services portal
  • Applying too late: many funding schemes use competitive selection or allocate funding in order of application.

Useful examples for 2025

  • Canary Islands (C14 efficiency & circularity): a dedicated funding scheme for tourist accommodation operators. Online services portal of the Gobierno de Canarias
  • Murcia (modernisation linked to PSTD): green and digital improvements to accommodation. CARM online portal
  • LEADER: open calls from Local Action Groups (GAL); check the call for your autonomous community, e.g. Catalonia 2025. gencat.cat
